Your Question

I think you've set my Direct Debit too high. What should I do?

Please be assured that we regularly review the amount you pay against your actual and estimated energy usage to try and make sure you're not paying too much.

Direct debit customers should expect to see a credit/debit on their energy account at certain times of the year due to the fluctuation in energy consumption. Your account is reviewed annually to try and ensure your payments are in line with your forecasted consumption over the next 12 months period.

When calculating your new Direct Debit installment value the following factor are taken into consideration:

  • Current unit price
  • Service package discounts
  • Current account balance
  • Forecast energy usage over the next 12 months

If at the time of your annual review your account is in credit, you may be eligible for a credit reward. To learn more about this and how you could get a fairer deal with ScottishPower, please click here.

If your payments have recently been reviewed, you can view a full breakdown of our calculations and forecast via your online account. Please visit www.scottishpower.co.uk/managepayments and click on 'View my Direct Debit forecast'.

If you would like to learn more about our Direct Debit scheme, we have a dedicated section on our website containing lots of answers to questions you may have, including a video help guide. To learn more please click here.

If you still think your monthly payment is too high, you can contact us with up-to-date meter readings and ask us to review your account again.
