What advice is available about energy efficient appliances?

A major consideration when buying any electrical appliance is its Energy Efficiency Rating, because the more efficient a product is, the less energy it needs to operate, leading to lower energy consumption. Many products now carry the 'Energy Efficient Appliance' label. This is awarded by the Energy Saving Trust to appliances that have passed an efficiency test. Further information is available from the Energy Saving Trust.

By law, new household products must display the European Community Energy Label

EU Energy Label

'A' rated products are the most efficient and 'G' rated products are the least efficient. The European Law applies to: refrigerators, freezers and fridge-freezer combinations; washing machines; electric tumble dryers and combined washer-dryers; dishwashers; lamps; electric ovens; and air conditioners.
